We are family.....
Misty Mountain Industries is a 5th Generation family owned & operated maple sugar camp located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. What started as a necessity on our grandparents (or to some, their great-great grandparents) family farm so many years ago, has evolved into a 'sweet' tradition with family and friends.
Early in the year, we anticipate what mother nature will hold in store for the 'sugar season'. Every year is different - it all depends on the weather!
Some of us remember tapping the trees with wooden spiles and gathering the sugar water using buckets. Long winter nights in an old, windy, wooden sugar camp, sleeping on an old rear car seat while ‘Pap’ kept the fire going all night to boil the sugar water down was a treat!!
Today, we tap the trees in ways that are healthier for the life of the tree.
We also now use ‘lines’ instead of buckets to gather the sweet water.
Family, friends, neighbors, and customers start to check in to see if the 'water is running' and if we are 'boiling' so they can stop in and 'smell the syrup being made'!!!!
And while we no longer pull an ‘all nighter’, we still involve the young and young at heart in the many facets of the season – especially eating ice cream with fresh, hot maple syrup poured directly onto it straight from the evaporator, enjoying maple freeze pops, or making pancakes and dousing them with freshly made syrup. Mmmmm – yummmm!!!!!!
As our own Maple Princess says: 'We hope you will try our 100% Pure, Natural Pennsylvania Maple Syrup and become part of our ‘maple family’, returning year after year to enjoy the ‘sweetness’ mother nature provides.'
We create ALL of our handmade maple products on site at our sugar camp. Our camp is regularly inspected by the PA Dept.of Ag.
